Raelon electric pallet jack lithium-ion vs AGM battery setup comparison for warehouse buyers

Lithium or AGM: Which Battery Fits Your Electric Pallet Jack?

For indoor pallet work, choose lithium. Raelon's F4 and F4-201 both run on removable 24V/20Ah lithium-ion batteries that recharge in about two hours from a standard 110V–120V outlet. AGM (absorbent glass mat, a sealed lead-acid design) is what powers the MN-01, our all-terrain truck for rough ground. Both types are maintenance-free, so the real differences are charging, weight and where the truck works.

Charging: two hours, no overnight wait

The F4 charges in about two hours, then runs roughly 5–6 hours depending on load, distance and floor conditions. The F4-201 also takes about two hours when both of its batteries sit on the two included chargers together, and it runs up to about four hours per charge. That is short enough to charge over lunch or between shifts, so the truck does not need a full night on the charger to be ready.

AGM packs generally charge more slowly than lithium, so plan a longer, uninterrupted window for the MN-01. If an F4 needs more runtime, it has a built-in slot for a second battery. You can add one later without changing models.

Weight and handling

The F4 and F4-201 batteries are built to come out. Pull the pack, charge it at a wall outlet, put it back. Raelon also sells the 24V/20Ah pack as a spare. The lithium pack weighs about 15 lb.

The MN-01 is a different scale. Its 48V/32Ah AGM battery weighs about 79 lb (36 kg), which is not something you swap mid-shift.

Care and cold weather

Neither battery type needs watering or acid handling. Lithium is still easier day to day, and Raelon's latest 24V/20Ah pack includes a battery management system (BMS) that protects against overcharge, over-discharge and short circuits. The BMS backs up good habits, it does not replace them, especially when several operators share one truck.

The F4 is rated for operation from −13°F to 104°F (−25°C to 40°C). At Canadian loading docks in winter, bring the pack indoors before charging and check the manual for charging limits.

When AGM is the right battery

Rough ground changes the question. The MN-01 is a 6,600 lb all-terrain pallet truck with a large rubber drive wheel (Φ300 × 95 mm), an all-metal body and 8% loaded gradeability, built for yards, loading areas and industrial sites. It runs a 48V/32Ah AGM battery with 1 kW of drive power. If your work is outdoors or on uneven surfaces, the truck decides the battery, and the MN-01 is the one to look at. On smooth indoor floors, the F4 and F4-201 are the better fit.

Which truck, which battery

Model Rated capacity Battery Made for
Raelon F4 3,300 lb One 24V/20Ah lithium-ion, removable Everyday indoor pallet handling, compact aisles
Raelon CBD15W-II 3,300 lb Lithium-ion Everyday indoor handling, a second 3,300 lb option to compare with the F4
Raelon F4-201 4,400 lb Two 24V/20Ah lithium-ion (48V system) Heavier loads, more frequent indoor handling
Raelon CBD20W-II 4,400 lb Lithium-ion, single pack 4,400 lb with one battery to manage
Raelon EPL205 4,400 lb One 48V/20Ah lithium-ion, plug-in/out, with built-in 10A charger One integrated battery and charger instead of two packs
Raelon WPL202 4,500 lb Lithium-ion Loose or stacked loads (backrest)
Raelon EPT25-WA 5,500 lb Lead-acid, maintenance-free Loose or stacked loads at the highest indoor capacity (backrest)
Raelon MN-01 6,600 lb 48V/32Ah AGM Outdoor yards, loading areas, rough ground

The EPT25-WA is the one lead-acid truck in the range. Its battery is a maintenance-free lead-acid type, so it needs no watering, but its charging routine differs from lithium.

Questions to ask before you buy

Answer these first and the battery choice usually makes itself:

  • How many pallets does the truck move per shift, and over what distance?
  • How long is the truck actually parked between shifts?
  • Does the battery need to come out, and can someone lift it safely?
  • Where will it charge, and is that space dry and above freezing?
  • Does the truck work indoors on smooth floors, or outdoors on rough ground?
  • How many operators share it, and will they follow the same charging rule?

Daily use, a shared truck and no battery room point to lithium, which is why the F4 and F4-201 are our main models. Outdoor or rough-ground work points to the MN-01 and its AGM battery.

Common battery mistakes

  • Charging with the wrong charger. Use the one supplied for that battery.
  • Charging a cold pack straight off a winter dock. Bring it indoors first.
  • Leaving the pack plugged in for days after it is full.
  • Stacking anything on the battery or leaving it where it can be crushed.
  • Choosing on price alone without checking the charging window against your shifts.
